GSI November Newsletter

From the Director

We had an inspiring first annual Global Studies Institute fall gathering. Among the 80 attendees were faculty, staff, and students who have interacted with the Global Studies Institute (GSI) through:

  • Global Oregon student and faculty travels awards

  • Advancing Global Solutions through research, innovation, and international collaborations

  • Hosting international visitors

  • Faculty research centers affiliated with the Global Studies Institute,

  • Staying in the Global Studies Institute Flat in London

  • Fulbright programs

Provost Chris Long and Vice Provost Dennis Galvan provided welcoming remarks. Provost Long highlighted the ways in which the University of Oregon’s global engagement directly aligns with the Oregon Rising strategic plan and its goal of accelerating the University’s impact on the world. Christopher Daradics and Stephanie Knight from the Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS) developed activities that provided attendees with the opportunity to discuss overlapping areas of interest over lunch. We are looking forward to future opportunities for collaboration.
