The campus community was invited to hear from and converse with international journalists, writers in exile, and scholars of journalism at the Extra! Extra! Don't Kill the Messenger symposium. 

 

An international conference of historians and cultural studies scholars exploring the many ways that migration and mobility have been translated across time and space, languages, cultures and academic disciplines. 

 

This speakers series held during spring term 2021 featured University of Oregon faculty, Dr. Arafaat A. Valiani (Associate Professor, History | Sociology | Global Health), Dr. Sangita Gopal (Associate Professor, Cinema Studies), and Dr. Bish Sen (Associate Professor, School of Journalism and Communication). Topics included Indigenous arts, global communications after Covid, and identity in Asian and Asian Studies, and more.

Event Support and Co-Sponsorship

GSI co-sponsors events and provides event planning and management for campus activities related to global research and teaching. Contact our team with questions or fill out the funding or support request forms below.
Event Funding Request: The Global Studies Institute has modest funding to co-sponsor campus events that support internationally-focused research, programs initiatives and global issues and topics. Proposals with a strong interdisciplinary and cross-regional focus are particularly encouraged. Applicants are encouraged to fill out the funding request.
Event Planning and Management Request: The Global Studies Institute has some capacity to support campus event planning and management on a fee-for-service basis for international guests and globally focused activities. Applicants are encouraged to fill out the event support request and communicate with our team about your needs.
