Center For Global Health

Who We Are

The Center for Global Health (CGH) is an interdisciplinary research center at the University of Oregon (UO) that supports a wide range of scientific, educational, and service-oriented initiatives designed to understand and ameliorate the world’s most challenging health and social problems. The CGH was launched in 2015 to provide a unifying framework for students, staff, and faculty across the university dedicated to improving health and well-being through education, research, training, and service in partnership with communities in the United States and around the world. Because many academic disciplines are needed to address the challenges of global health, CGH leverages the unique institutional strengths of the University of Oregon to bring together faculty and students from different schools and programs on campus, ranging from natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and professional schools.

Planning, Public, Policy Management with minors in Global Health and Political Science

Avi has worked closely with CGH co-Director Jeff Measelle on his internship in Cambodia and with CGH-affiliated faculty member Nicole Ngo on his research and work in Laos.

"Through an internship with UNICEF in the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Avi has design a research study examining strategies to improve maternal adherence to Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS). This work contributes to a major national transition from Iron-Folic Acid (IFA) supplementation, containing only two micronutrients, to MMS, which delivers 15 essential vitamins and minerals to support maternal and child health."

Dora Ho '26

Multidisciplinary Sciences

Dora worked with CGH co-Director Jeff Measelle and CGH affiliated faculty Dare Baldwin in Cambodia conducting research related to infant development. She later received a CGH award to travel to Scotland to present her research findings at International Congress of Infants Studies 2025.

"Being able to present as an undergraduate in a room full of post-docs, primary investigators, master's students, and more was a huge honor. I was able to network with other individuals in my field from across the globe. I enjoyed being able to participate in global health on a *global* scale and see how the work I do here at UO can have lasting impacts elsewhere."

Multidisciplinary Sciences

Bella is a former student of CGH co-Director Jo Weaver. She first received a CGH award to participate in an internship in Ecuador in 2023 that included both immersive Spanish instruction and community engagement related to health services. She then went on to participate in the APRU Undergraduate Leadership Program in Chile in 2025 where she got to learn more about health policy in the global south.

"I was able to grow my perspective of the world and consider contemporary issues from an international lens, learning that the challenges we face in the US are often playing out with consequences across the world and international diplomacy exists with and without US influence. I made connections with leaders from across the pacific rim and gained invaluable knowledge on culture, leadership, research and human rights"
